Gibbons’ Three Fantasias, like all English fantasia, are composed on the principle of imitation. The entries of the themes are not always easily recognized; it will give the players greater pleasure to discover them for themselves than when they are indicated editorially. These fantasias were initially indicated as being written for two trebles, but they have been transposed up for treble recorders in this edition.
