Medtners Three Hymns in Praise of Toil are very symbolic works and reflections about the founding of works of art which illustrate god's creation. So not at all hymns in praise of toil in the Soviet proletarian sense, but thought through creations, where even the choice of C major is of relevance. WIlhelm Zimmermann published these ingenious pieces 1929, ever since the virtuoso work of Medtner bears a challenge for young pianists. WIth the revised new edition of Christoph Flamm this passionate work finally gets the attention that it deserves.
