Vandall’s Historic Virginia highlights the history of Virginia in four movements. The opening movement, The New World, commemorates the 400th anniversary of the state and the settlement of Jamestown with a stately tempo, majestic chords and sweeping grandeur. An arrangement of America follows, paying tribute to the eight presidents from Virginia, all of whom served in the United States military. The magnificent mountains in the state are depicted in the sweeping lyricism of the third movement, Mountain Sunrise. Running on the Beach closes the suite with a lively tempo, staccato articulations and changing meters, celebrating the many seashores in Virginia.
