Dvorák's incidental composition for mixed choir and orchestra was written in 1879 at the request of the singing society Prazský Hlahol. It was published by Simrock in 1888 in Berlin. The lyrics in the vocal score are set in three languages: Czech, English and German. The publication is part of the first Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvorák. The Preface is written by Jarmil Burghauser (Cz., Eng., Ger., Fr.).
