Opening with an impatient gesture in the piano immediately answered by an energetic viola line, the piano then joins and interrupts'. This sets the scene for Watkins' 'Fantasy', a contemporary work written in the Baroque tradition, full of highly contrasting sections. Expansive sections exploiting the viola's lyrical qualities are skilfully juxtaposed, often abruptly, with new but related ideas.
