There are very few pieces in the Nikolai Kapustin oeuvre like this Sonatina intentionally written as aneasy piece. Kapustin was approached by a music school for children and asked to write something “not too difficult”, and although he at first declined he changed his mind and turned towards writing something “easy”; his Sonatina for piano, Op. 100 was composed in 2000.
