This late intermediate piano solo is a theme and six variations based on Sanford Faulkner's "Arkansas Traveler." The theme begins in the key of A major, and the variations move through different keys, including A minor, D major, and D minor. The variations explore the styles of Mozart, MacDowell, a Viennese waltz, an Impressionistic work featuring chords built in fourths over an ostinato figure, a jazzy swing piece with a walking bass line, and a rhumba.
