B?la Bart?kのMikrokosmosは20世紀のピアノ音楽の重要な作品の一つです。そのレパートリーは、「初歩からの」教育的な小品から演奏会用の曲まであり、ピアノ・レッスンには欠かせない作品となっている。本書は、原典版全6巻のうち2巻を収録した全3巻のアーテキスト版として初めて出版される。楽典は資料に基づいて批判的に検討され、多くの細部を修正することができた。さらに、この版には未発表の曲や初期の版が含まれている。教育的に非常に興味深いのは、バルトークが息子ピーターのレッスンのために特別に編曲したいくつかの曲のヴァージョンで、各巻の付録に掲載されている。
