The two album leafs are dedicated to important people in Wagner's life. Albumblatt für Ernst Benedikt Kietz, is about a close friend of Wagner and was written during his first visit to Paris. Albumblatt für Frau Betty Schott is a token of gratitude to the patroness and widow of the music publisher Franz Schott from Mainz. It contains, albeit hidden, reminiscences of motifs from the 'Mastersingers'. This lovely character piece is also Wagner's last work for piano.
