Marrakesh is a large city in Morocco, a country located in Northwest Africa. This solo depicts the colorful markets and lively festivals for which this city is famous. Written in G minor, the left hand maintains a staccato ostinato throughout using broken fifths. The melody is found in the right hand and features legato eighth-note figures followed by staccato quarter notes. It moves to various registers in the treble clef, creating an excellent opportunity for developing freedom of movement. The quick tempo makes this an exciting piece for both the performer and the audience.
