I thought Heaven was open and seeing the Creator of all things, said to have shouted Handel after finishing the second part of the oratorio with the famous Hallelujah. In about three weeks he wrote down the score. In 1742, the Messiah was premiered with great success as a charity concert for several charities in Dublin. Since then it has been one of the most important works of sacred music.
