This is an excellent solo for getting students to move around the keyboard with ease. Both hands play fifths, beginning with broken fifths in the left hand, moving to the right hand and followed by the left hand crossing over with a blocked fifth. These fifths move to different keys, creating a modal sound and thus evoking the title. The use of the damper pedal aids in allowing the hands to move easily over the keyboard in to the different positions.
